The Telegraph has today (Saturday 3 November) reported in its print and online editions that DFID has provided £3million in support to environmental charity ClientEarth, despite its Chief Executive becoming one of the highest paid bosses in the voluntary sector.
What was not clearly reflected in these earlier articles was that not a single penny of UK aid provided to ClientEarth is used for their core UK business, including the salaries of chief executives.
The Telegraph has now updated its copy to accurately reflect this point.
All UK aid provided to ClientEarth is being used for specific projects overseas.
The grant provided by DFID has enabled ClientEarth to support local legal experts who work with communities and civil societies in Liberia, Ghana, the Ivory Coast and the Democratic Republic of Congo to strengthen legal frameworks to tackle the illegal timber trade and to strengthen women’s rights to natural resources.
